80's Themed Birthday Party

80's Themed Birthday Party in NYC

Back in March, Becky and I had the opportunity to capture an 80's themed birthday bash at NYC's Slate. Slate is a bar and nightclub, complete with billiard tables and ping pong tables so there's never a dull moment! The guest of honor runs a school for children with Autism, and her commitment to her students was celebrated that night by friends, family and co-workers in a big, neon, spandex-y way!

It was an awesome night full of fun retro decor

Almost everyone came in some kind of costume, some left over from the 80's themselves and some pieced together from more modern pieces with an 80's vibe.

and a great performance from an epic 80's cover band called Weird Science -- The Ultimate 80's Experiment.  This isn't just any cover band though, there are 6 members who each have their own persona (like Michael J Roxx, Willy Idol and Myndi Lauper).

With multiple costume changes and playing some of the best songs from one of the best decades (maybe I'm biased because it's when I was born...because I certainly don't need shoulder pads to come back into fashion), it was impossible to not stop and dance around occasionally!

I was bummed though when a fuse blew as soon as one of my favorite 80's songs started, but I guess I'll just have to catch them some other time to get to hear Outfield's "Your Love" in it's entirety. They made up for it though with Mr. Big's "To Be With You" which was stuck in my head for about 2 weeks after that.

It was a fun--er "totally rad" night for a person so important in many people's lives.
