Blog Project Week 27: Yum
In one of those "meant to be" moments, my sister picked the word "Yum" for the week we were going to be on vacation to Maine and Vermont. While there were tons of things I could have taken pictures of (partially because I love food), I knew instantly that I needed to head straight to my favorite restaurant in Maine -- the Dolphin Marina & Restaurant in South Harpswell, Maine.
No trip to Maine is complete without stopping by the Dolphin for the incredible views, friendly staff (& owner), Louie the resident black lab and most importantly the FOOD! Not only is their food delicious but it's always presented beautifully without being snooty. Fresh ingredients, unique specials that aren't so off the wall that you're scared to try them, and old New England classics make my mouth water just thinking about them. My favorite entree to get is the crab salad roll with fries (I know I know, it should be lobster but I'm not a huge fan of lobster).
Starting with a blueberry lemonade cocktail (blueberry puree, lemonade and vodka) I also scarffed down some oyster crackers to help counteract the vodka (lightweight!). My sister's cup of fish chowder came with an incredible and huge blueberry muffin which I sat and drooled over for quite some time but didn't try just in case they use buttermilk (boo food allergies!). A little too overjoyed when my crab roll came I took a few pictures before devouring it. I always love the touch of a fresh cut of pansies to the food, which is why I knew I wanted to go there for taking a photograph of food. I also snagged one of my sister's fried clams and thought briefly about how sometimes I wished I had 5 stomachs. But then I asked what they had for dessert...
Blueberry pie. I'm not sure what words can properly explain how amazing this pie was. Warm but not hot, with some fresh homemade whipped cream on the side with a mint leaf. Oh Maine. How I love you and your blueberries (and yes, before you yell I know New Jersey is also home to some stunning examples of the adorable purple berry, but there is something special about Maine's blueberries and how they use them). By the time I was taking this picture, our waitress was asking if I was a food critic.
As mouth watering as the picture is, the pie was even better. I wish I could say that I took plenty of time to take this picture and enjoyed how beautiful it was before I ate it but I can't. I demolished that pie! If you're ever in Maine do yourself a favor and go to the Dolphin and get ANYTHING on the menu and I promise you will not be disappointed.
And just because I love you all, here are a few pics that I took that didn't make it as "the one"
